part i.
Character name: Noor
Fandom: OC
Species (vampire, werewolf, what have you): Noor is human, but a “breed” of human (think of similar dog breeds rather than anything so big as subspecies) called a Mabyr – see powers.
Character powers: Mabyr individuals are manipulators of others’ magical ability. They are considered “magical vampires,” but they don’t just suck it away; it can flow in both directions. They can draw another person’s magical power away from them and use it for themselves, or else enhance the other’s power to positive effect. Important to note is that the magic is not consumed or thrown away: it’s just pushed or pulled, like gravitational forces pulling the tides. Noor is untrained and unpractised, and so she has little control. In her presence, a magic-user with whom Noor has positive association will feel a noticeable increase in the potency of their abilities, but the effect isn’t profound. Those with a negative association may feel a decrease. It’s not a static effect and it often ebbs slightly back-and-forth, so those magic-users who she’s only just met might feel nothing at all or may feel it cyclically increase and decrease subtly – it’s pretty much up to you as a player, if you might find it fun to throw at your character. The effect may be outwardly apparent as well, up to player’s discretion. She can have a greater effect if she actually tries to, but most of the time she just creates ripples by being there. (Just as a fun idea, if a player’s character has a transformative or cloaking type ability, feel free to have it triggered [eg werewolfism] or withdrawn by Noor spontaneously if you want, or else I’m up for discussing potential plots around that.)
*A note about this: since not all worlds have magic but may have “special powers” or other “supernatural abilities,” like X-Men for example, I suppose we can decide on a case-by-case basis whether that “counts” – generally I err on the side of “yes it counts” because it’s more fun that way, but I’m totally flexible.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
Totally acceptable. Noor has no special mental blocks, and since she’s kind of enticed by magic in general she might even be particularly easy to magically persuade.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
All systems go: feel free to read her mind and see memories. She has a whole lot of nightmares that she remembers in vivid detail, so those are lurking under the surface for you. The biggest traumatic memory is when her friend / romantic interest was possessed by a demon who then forged a magical bond with Noor (while they were both held captive for being Mabyr). Everything is open-season, and I'll give more details if needed. Her mind is generally conflicted, a little sad, a little dark.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
Yes.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
Yes. See #2.
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
Not sure about this one. Everything is pretty fair game to me. Probably a pretty big one (which is fine for you to pick up on) is that she was, at one time, bound to a manifested demon, which left a pretty big imprint on her even though the bond is severed. Also feel free to detect her particular brand of “abilities.” In that vein please feel free to feel the effects of her power as described above -- I won't force it on anybody and it's not a very intense thing most of the time.
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
She’s small, 5’4”, narrow-shouldered. The most unusual and noticeable characteristic is only visible to people with magical ability, and that is a swirling, intricate, complex black tattoo (imbibed with magical energy) that covers the entire left side of her face, from the side of her nose to tragus of ear, chin to forehead. You as a player are free to decide if they think their character counts as having a magical ability (supernatural creatures also count). Non-magical characters will simply not see a tattoo there.
2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
Nope, no particular immunity. Maybe she's theoretically less susceptible to some diseases because she's slightly genetically different than real-world humans, but nothing noteworthy.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Short answer: no. Long answer: Her genome is slightly divergent from a normal non-magical human, which may have unknown microscopic effects at the molecular intracellular physiology level, but it's not noteworthy.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to your character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
I’m okay with Noor being harmed, fed on by vampires, etc. Of course, more permanent stuff or death I’d rather discuss first. I am not okay with assault of a sexual nature.
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
Yes, go for it.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
Yes, nothing is stopping you from detecting her presence if your character has that ability. Magic-users will certainly be aware of some effect radiating from her (because of her power -- see part i). Probably the currently-severed connection she had with a demon is something that a character might detect if they can read auras or that sort of thing -- feel free to be repulsed by it, or however they might react! Ideas of objective evil aside, demons are generally nasty and destructive, selfish, prideful, envious creatures, and the footprint of this is on Noor -- she is kind of tainted. The rest of her aura might be held in very tight as she is so paranoid and contained as a person. Her aura or presence is not particularly special beyond those circumstances, so to someone who can't read auras or is nonmagical, Noor's just like anyone else.
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses? Yes.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)? Yes.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event? Noor is prone towards envy and sloth (inaction).
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot? Yes.
part v.
1. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances? Yes, unless private or very serious.
2. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced? Not applicable.
3. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)? No.
4. Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey? Nope!
